Leeds United are yet to sign anyone this summer with the club yet to clarify who will be in charge of the team next season.

Director of football Victor Orta is still likely to recruit new players despite the lack of a first team manager, and one player he must look to sign is Brentford attacker Romaine Sawyers.

Sawyers, 26, has been in dazzling form for Brentford over the last couple of seasons and adding him to the Leeds squad would be a perfect way to kick off the club’s summer transfer business.

The Telegraph has reported that West Brom are about to bid £3million to re-sign the 22-times St Kitts and Nevis international this summer – but Leeds should look to hijack the Baggies’ efforts to welcome him back to The Hawthorns as a perfect player to add competition to Samuel Saiz.

Leeds’ attacking midfield options are pretty weak away from Saiz and Pablo Hernandez, who is mostly used on the wing.

Kemar Roofe offers little in that role and Saiz’ form since January has nosedived, meaning that Orta has to be on the look out for a new number 10.

And Sawyers is the best man to fill that hole, and with a valuation of £3million, it is a move that should be affordable to the West Yorkshire club

Sawyers made 44 appearances in all competitions for Brentford last season.

The 26-year-old scored five goals and supplied five assists in the process and has proved that he is a more than capable Championship performer.

A step up to Leeds will no doubt be a move that he would consider next, especially as West Brom have let him down once already in his career by releasing him without ever handing him a first team appearance.
