Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has given the green light for midfield pair Andy Halliday and Jason Holt to leave the club this summer after clubs had inquired about their sales, according to club insider Four Lads Had a Dream.

The Twitter account, which has become a reputable source of inside information surrounding events at Ibrox, claim that the senior duo have both had a number of potential suitors and that the new man in the dugout has told them both they will be allowed to depart this summer, with crucial contact being made by other sides.

Holt and Halliday, who made 33 and 15 appearances respectively for Rangers last season, could be joined by Lee Wallace in leaving the club, with Gerrard reportedly set to hold talks with the defender on Friday.

Opinion

While Holt and Halliday have both been dependable members of the Gers squad through the years, they are not quite at the level that the English manager is looking for going forward. The latter must be feeling a sense of deja vu, having found himself in the same situation last summer when he was shipped out on loan by then boss Pedro Caixinha. Gerrard needs some more quality in his side and while the duo have experience of the Scottish top flight, he will be seeking a little something extra to really drive the Light Blues on up the table and close the gap on fierce rivals Celtic. With clubs already said to be circling, their sales might not be too far away, and with the transfer fees coming in the Ibrox faithful could see a couple of faces through the door to replace their former stars. It is all change in the blue half of Glasgow – will it be enough next season?
