Celtic chief Peter Lawwell is confident of getting a bank-breaking swoop for Odsonne Edouard over the line after negotiations pushed the club closer to a done deal, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claim that crunch talks between Paris Saint Germain and those representing the 20-year-old on Wednesday were positive, leaving the Hoops feeling good about bringing the young striker back to Parkhead after his successful loan spell last season.

It is stated that Brendan Rodgers’ side are willing to smash their £6million transfer record for his capture, and that a deal could be just days away with Lawwell keen on sealing the deal, which would include a five-year contract, by the end of Friday (15 June), with a deadline on Saturday which would allow other clubs to try and launch a move.

Opinion

The Hoops were impressed with Edouard during his loan spell and it is clear to see why. At 6’1″ (source: Transfermarkt) fans might have expected something of a target man up front, using his physicality to dominate defences and force his way through on goal. However, while he did show his strength, he also demonstrated a good turn of pace, and looked good with the ball at his feet. It is those numerous abilities which has led to Celtic not only chasing his capture, but lining up a record breaking swoop. His age means he has so much potential to release over the coming years and Rodgers looks keen to nurture that ability and turn him into a red hot striker at Parkhead. Of course, he will have to battle it out with fellow youngster Moussa Dembele and experienced hitman Leigh Griffiths up top in the Hoops side, but as time progresses he will likely establish himself as the number one forward for the Bhoys.
