Celtic are ready to table a new deal for fringe player Calvin Miller and then ship him out on loan this summer, according to TeamTalk.

The news outlet claims that Miller, 20, is a high priority signing at English League One club Sunderland by their new manager Jack Ross, who is understood to be looking to use his contacts in Scotland to bolster his squad at the Stadium of Light.

The Glasgow-born left-back made just five appearances in all competitions for the Bhoys last season.

Good move for Celtic?

Miller definitely needs more first team experience and it will be a good idea to send him out on loan to Sunderland this summer.

A lot of Scottish Premiership clubs let their younger players move out on loan to other Scottish clubs, but it’s definitely more worthwhile to send them out to lower league English clubs.

Sunderland will surely be pushing for the League One title next season, so sending Miller to a team that will likely be winning a lot is definitely the best move.

Likely to happen?

At the moment, Celtic have no one other than Kieran Tierney to play at left-back, and surely they would only consider letting Miller go out on loan if Brendan Rodgers has found a replacement.

It does not appear that the Bhoys are in the hunt for a new left-back at the moment, despite the huge amount of game-time that Tierney had last season.

An injury to the Scotland international could be a disaster if Miller is shipped out on loan without a replacement being brought in.
