Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba is in the running the be the next signing at Tottenham, according to Football Whispers.

The football news site claims that there is a good chance that Alba, 29, could swap Catalonia for North London this summer, in what could be a very expensive transfer as the Mirror reports that he has a £133million release clause in his Barca deal.

It is understood there is a 3.2 in 5 chance that the Spain international will make his way to Spurs as Mauricio Pochettino’s next signing, even though he is clearly a first team player at the Nou Camp having made 48 appearances across all competitions last season.

Football Whispers rounds up transfer rumours from across the world and calculates the likelihood of them happening out of five. A score of 5 out of 5 would mean that a deal is a certainty, so there’s a decent chance that Alba could be heading to Spurs judging by this report.

OPINION

Alba would be a stunning addition for Spurs, but the chances of the deal happening a pretty much zero to none. The former Valencia left-back is too key to Barcelona’s first team squad and there’s little chance that the La Liga club would be looking to cash in on him this summer. Spurs may be in need of a new left-back this summer with Danny Rose’s future not set in stone. Last year the England left-back cast major doubt on his future with an astonishing interview where he blasted the club for not paying the players enough. He has been linked with Premier League rivals Manchester United for a long time and there could be movement on that after the World Cup. Could Alba be his replacement? It would be expensive and Barca may even want the release clause matched in order to sell him. It’s just not going to happen.
