Recently departed Celtic striker Nadir Ciftci is set to return back home in a stunning switch to Turkish club Erzurumspor on a one year deal, according to the Daily Record.

The news website reports that following the 5’9″ (source: Transfermarkt) forward’s departure from Celtic last week, the newly-promoted Turkish Super Lig outfit have offered him a one year deal to return to his homeland of Turkey.

The 26-year-old reject was signed for £1.5 million by former Hoops boss Ronny Deila, before being loaned out to Turkish and Polish clubs, as well as Plymouth Argyle and Motherwell last season.

OPINION

Ciftci hardly made a fleeting impression on the Scottish Premier League with Celtic, so it is no wonder he was farmed out to a number of clubs on loan before his departure from the Hoops was announced last week. He had not got to grips with performing in the SPL, which have been evident in Celtic’s willingness to let him go on free transfer. The striker will be more comfortable playing in his home country of Turkey, and has the opportunity to establish himself properly as the club aim to secure survival in Turkey’s top flight. Playing for Celtic can be stressful at times as they maintain their status as one of Scotland’s top teams, and he did not live up to this important task. Getting him off the books at Celtic Park allows Rodgers to bring other players in that are worthy to be on the Hoops’ wage bill, for example Odsonne Edouard. Celtic have done themselves a favour by offloading such an unreliable player.
