Celtic are ready to break their current transfer record of £6 million this week as they look to agree a permanent deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Odsonne Edouard, according to the Evening Times.

The newspaper reports on their website that the 6’1 (source: Transfermarkt) giant has expressed his wishes that Celtic is where he wants to be playing his football next season, and the Hoops have a deadline of this coming Saturday (16th June) to trigger the clause they agreed with PSG last August.

Advanced talks are set to take place in a bid to bring the French striker’s services to Celtic Park this week, with Celtic said to be looking to offer a sensational fee of £10 million for the 20-year-old.

OPINION

Celtic are definitely serious about this signing if they are willing to break their current transfer record in order to bring him to Celtic Park. Being so young, this could be a risk for Rodgers, but he appears confident that the young ace will deliver the goods for him next season after impressing on loan. The Hoops boss means business, and this move will send a message to his rivals that his attacking options are to be reckoned with following the arrival of Edouard. He scored 11 goals in 29 appearances for the Parkhead outfit in the 2017/2018 campaign, and Rodgers undoubtedly believes that he can replicate this form next season. Meanwhile Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will be casting a watchful eye over how the youngster will perform this season, and will be hoping to bring in players before that who are of the same quality. The Gers boss will be hoping that Edouard does not replicate his form, otherwise his side will be in for a torrid time next season.
