West Ham are in pursuit of Standard Liege’s versatile attacker Edmilson Junior according to a report in DH Belgium.

The Belgian media outlet claims on their website that the Hammers are one of a number of names to be linked with the forward who can play on the right or the left of midfield, with Wolves, Fulham, and Fiorentina all said to keen.

Edmilson’s notoriety rose in this season’s Juliper Pro League play offs after he racked up a total of seven goals in ten outings as the Belgian side ended the season second in the table, ahead of Anderlecht, but behind Club Brugge.

The East London outfit are keen to find an attacking midfielder this summer particularly in the aftermath of Manuel Lanzini’s injury bombshell, which ended his hopes of appearing at the World Cup this summer.

Good move for West Ham?

Performing well for West Ham is not the same as performing well in the Belgian top-flight.

The fast pace and physical nature of the Premier League often means that it’s a difficult place for foreigners to adapt to.

At 5ft 9in (transfermarkt),  Edmilson is a not a powerhouse figure and looks like the kind of player who would get bossed around by some of the tougher defenders but Lanzini was not exactly blessed with a dominant presence either so he could prove to be useful alternative whilst the Argentinian playmaker continues to regain fitness.

Likely to happen?

West Ham are being linked to everyone and anyone right now so it’s difficult to know which players to take seriously and which ones to discount.

Having said that, the left flank is a position in the side that needs addressing in light of Lanzini’s injury and having shown he is capable of finding the back of the net, Edmilson is worth a punt.
