Inter Milan’s director of football Piero Ausilio has jetted abroad to meet with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy over the sale of midfielder Mousa Dembele.

Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport claims that Ausilio will meet with Levy, as the Serie A club try to negotiate a deal to sign Spurs’ enforcer.

It is understood that the North London club value him at £26.3million despite the fact he has just one year remaining on his contract.

The report further details that the Belgium international has already agreed in principle to join Inter and seal an exit from Spurs after a six-year stay.

Statistics site Spotrac claims that Dembele has a £55,000-a-week contract with Spurs and it is set to expire in 2019.

Good move for Spurs?

Dembele is one of the world’s outstanding central midfielders on his day and this season proved himself against the very best on the Champions League stage.

The powerhouse has a brilliant balance to his game and has to be one of the first names on Mauricio Pochettino’s team sheets.

He is still aged just 30 and can have several more years at the top, which is why selling him on is crazy.

However, picking up £25million-plus for a player nearing his contract end is the only positive and Inter are looking to recruit following their return to the Champions League next season.

Likely to happen?

Dembele’s potential exit appears to be speeding up with meeting set to be held in the near future and the fact the player has verbally agreed to move is a concern.

Levy will not allow the first teamer to go on the cheap though and negotiations are by no means a foregone conclusion.
