O’Hallaran eyed up for Rangers exit by Motherwell and St Johnstone

|

Rangers’ Premiership rivals Motherwell and St Johnstone are both plotting a summer swoop to take attacker Michael O’Halloran away from Ibrox, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper report that the 27-year-old is likely to be up for sale this summer after struggling to have the desired impact with the Light Blues, having been bought for £500,000 back in 2016, and has a contract until 2020.

With just 38 appearances under his belt for the Gers, it is said that Motherwell have named him as a top priority target this summer, the versatile winger having impressed while on loan with St Johnstone having scored five goals in 16 appearances for his former side.

Opinion

O’Halloran never really looked like living up to expectation despite being brought in for half-a-million pounds two years ago, and he will go down as one of the number of flops the Gers have splashed out for over recent years. There is little chance of rescuing himself with Rangers and for the good of his own career, he should be looking to move on. Whether that is a return to St Johnstone or a switch to Motherwell will depend on who is offering the most money. Selling him on will help garner some more funds for new boss Steven Gerrard to spend over the summer, and it will all be about getting the highest possible fee for the 27-year-old after his disappointing stay at Ibrox. What they may want to avoid doing is strengthening their top flight rivals though, and they could well be waiting for an English suitor to take him on.
