Stan Collymore has slammed Liverpool goalkeepers Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, saying that the Anfield duo are nowhere near good enough for the club after the 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid on Saturday night.

Karius made two major mistakes that gifted Madrid two goals as they wrapped up their third European title in a row.

The German shot-stopper blamed himself for the defeat after the game, and Collymore has advised Jurgen Klopp to go out and sign two better options in the summer transfer window.

“Feel for Karius on a night like tonight. But he’s never been good enough. Nor is Mignolet. Need two new keepers of the very highest quality. The most ruthless unraveling,” the former Liverpool forward said on his personal Twitter account.

This is not a new problem for Klopp and it’s not a surprise that a goalkeeper performance has cost them in a massive game. Unfortunately, it came in the biggest game of all and Klopp needs to take some of the blame for it because this is something he could have prevented in the transfer window. Both Karius and Mignolet are not good enough and they are not shot-stoppers who can help a team win titles. There are teams outside the top six in the Premier League, and even teams who got relegated, that have better goalkeepers than Liverpool. Jack Butland should be high on their shortlist for the summer while there may be some more expensive options abroad in Jan Oblak or Gianluigi Donnarumma. Any of them would be a massive improvement. Top teams have goalkeepers who win them points and the Merseyside club just do not have that.
