Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is seemingly not interested in signing West Brom ace James McClean, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Saturday [03:27pm] that McClean, 29, does not appear to be on the Bhoys’ radar, despite him making it clear that he would want to move to Parkhead before the end of his career.

It is understood that Stoke have tabled a bid worth around £4million for the Republic of Ireland international, but Albion value McClean at £6million after he played a key role in their end-of-season resurgence under Darren Moore.

OPINION

Although Celtic fans may really want the club to sign McClean due to his support of the club, his political and religious beliefs and his massive work-rate, he is simply not good enough and Rodgers is right to avoid signing him. Just because McClean supports the club doesn’t mean he will be a good signing. If West Brom want £6million, that would equal the Bhoys’ record spend on Chris Sutton and John Hartson and to match that record on a player of McClean’s quality would be a bit of a kick in the teeth. He does not possess the technical abilities needed to make an impact at Parkhead. Despite his hardwork, he has never consistently scored goals or supplied assists while playing on the left wing. Scott Sinclair’s had a poor season at Celtic, but McClean would not be as good as him and if Rodgers wants to spend £6million, it should be on someone who is a clear improvement on the current stock.
