Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has confirmed that the club is working on a number of transfer deals and he expects there to be some “exciting news” imminently.

The Whites’ transfer policy has come under fire this season after the Yorkshire giants failed to make any progress on their seventh-placed finish in 2016/17 and took major backward steps with Victor Orta in charge of transfers.

Elland Road chief Kinnear, speaking to radio station TalkSport, has announced that there is a lot of work being done on deals for the summer transfer window, with him suggesting that some are in their advanced stages.

“We’re working on them,” he said, when asked whether Leeds are close to wrapping up any deals.

“As soon as the season tailed off plans for next season were already in place, and we are well advanced in lots of areas. So hopefully there should be some good and exciting news soon.”

OPINION

Leeds have to go big this summer otherwise they could fall even further back next term. There are some strong clubs coming up into the Championship from League One as well as West Brom, Stoke and Swansea dropping down from the Premier League after lengthy spells in England’s top-flight. That means that the Championship could be tougher than ever next season and Leeds have to respond. It won’t be good enough to have players’ wages capped at £15,000-a-week anymore or just spending the maximum of around £4.5million on a player. If the Whites have the cash, then they have to burn it because next season’s Championship could see any three teams from the bottom-half of mid-table get relegated. That is unthinkable for United, who need to get back in the Premier League. Andrea Radrizzani is a good, passionate owner who actually cares about the club and Paul Heckingbottom seems like he has some good ideas that could help them get back into the play-off mix. Orta just needs to change his approach to transfers and there are surely exciting times on their way to Elland Road.
