Liverpool are interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini at the end of the season, according to L’Equipe.

The French newspaper claims that the Merseyside club will be in the race for the 30-year-old’s signature when his current deal at Old Trafford expires in the summer.

It is understood that the Reds, Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain, Besiktas and a host of Chinese clubs are lining up the Belgium international.

The report details that Jurgen Klopp is eyeing a three-year contract deal for the midfield colossus, who previously played on Merseyside with Everton earlier in his career.

Good move for Liverpool?

Liverpool may need to bolster their midfield options ahead of next season, but Fellaini is not a player that should emerge on their radar.

He is not a regular starter at United for a reason and would be low down the pecking order under Klopp.

The midfielder is renowned for his physicality and combative approach, but he surely lacks the technical quality to make a serious impact at Anfield.

Fellaini can be good to chuck on to the pitch in the closing moments to provide an aerial threat and would not demand a transfer fee, but ultimately would be a big waste of wages.

Likely to happen?

No.

This is one of the craziest transfer stories doing the rounds at the minute and it seems almost impossible to imagine Fellaini putting on a Liverpool shirt next season.

He could well seal an exit from Man United, but one of the suitors from abroad seems a far more likely destination.
