Garth Crooks has labelled Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris “shambolic” for his performances in the past two matches.

The Spurs captain has let his standards slip recently in goal despite the fact his side are on a 15-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

He was guilty of a huge error at the weekend in the 2-1 win over Stoke, with his attempted clearance presenting Mame Biram Diouf with an open goal to score.

The shot-stopper also came in for criticism in the 3-1 win over Chelsea after he failed to gather a cross for Alvaro Morata’s goal.

Lloris is certainly going through a difficult spell right now and will hope his form can improve with an FA Cup semi-final with Manchester United on the horizon.

BBC pundit Crooks has criticised the France international, but feels the strength in the squad has meant they remain unbeaten in 2018 in the league.

“To beat Stoke away from home after winning at Chelsea last weekend – and in light of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris’ shambolic displays – speaks volumes about the team’s development. At the heart of these performances has been Eriksen,” Crooks wrote in his column for BBC Sport.

OPINION

There is no doubt that Lloris has not enjoyed his best season in a Spurs shirt and these errors have begun creeping into his game. He is still an ever-present in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line up and a senior figure in the squad. However, he will need to try rediscover his best form moving forward as Spurs can’t afford to have a weak link in goal if they are to be successful. Lloris is likely to remain the first-choice goalkeeper ahead of their move to a new stadium, but it could be worth signing a young player with a view to him replacing the Frenchman eventually.
