Former Celtic ace Kris Commons has raved about ‘simply unplayable’ striker Odsonne Edouard following their 5-0 win over Rangers on Sunday, and said the club have a big decision to make on him this summer.

The Paris Saint-Germain loanee was the man-of-the-match against the Light Blues, scoring Celtic’s first two goals as they romped to a big win that secured a seventh-successive Premiership title.

Commons has now admitted that he was blown away by the 20-year-old’s performance, and admitted that the club have a massive choice as they decide whether to make his loan permanent, while also highlighting two other star performers.

In a column for the Daily Mail, he said: “Rodgers, though, will rightly feel very proud about the way his team wrapped up the title. There were so many excellent individual performances. Dedryck Boyata had a nightmare at Ibrox last month, but he was incredible this time. That was the top quality you want to see from him.

“Did they really only pay £4 million for Olivier Ntcham? He looked a £10 million footballer out there. And then there is Odsonne Edouard – simply unplayable. There is a big decision to be made about what happens with Edouard for next season. Do Celtic pay Paris St Germain the money to keep him?

“If you are going to have three players of real quality in Moussa Dembele, Leigh Griffiths and Edouard, and only play one centre-forward, then one of those three may eventually want to leave to get more regular football. But, listen, it’s a nice problem to have. When you look at the youth within the Celtic team, the money they have in the bank and the manager they have in the technical area, I would expect them to kick on again. They could be even more dominant in the league next season.”

Edouard’s double on Sunday took him to 11 goals for the season since joining on loan from PSG last summer, with three of those having come against Rangers in Old Firm derbies.

OPINION

Commons is right to highlight the contribution of Edouard to Celtic’s win on Sunday, with the young Frenchman putting in his best performance yet for the club. His first goal showed good positioning and awareness to get in front of the defender and turn home, while his second showed what an exciting talent he is. With Dembele surely likely to leave this summer, you would think that the club would take up the option to sign Edouard permanently, with the 20-year-old offering a perfect like-for-like replacement for his compatriot. Rodgers’ comments after the game would seem to suggest that will be the case, but we will have to wait until the summer to find out.
