Alan Shearer believes it’s unlikely that Sam Allardyce will still be Everton manager next season and has aimed a dig at the club’s supporters for their treatment of him.

The 63-year-old took charge at Goodison Park mid-way through the season on an 18-month contract and has managed to guide the club away from relegation trouble.

His side were right in the mix at the bottom end of the table when he took charge, but the 2-0 away victory over Huddersfield at the weekend means they are now eighth in the Premier league table.

However, supporters of the Merseyside club have voiced their frustration towards the former England manager and are not blown away by his tactics.

Allardyce has never been known for playing an expansive style of football, but sets up his teams well defensively and they build from that.

BBC pundit feels that Allardyce will be shown the Everton exit doors at the end of the season, but condemned fans for their harsh words after his decent run of results with them.

“While Sam says he will still be at Goodison Park next season after talks with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, I just can’t see it,” Shearer wrote in his column for the Sun.

“The fans are still the people club owners listen to. Everton cannot go on with such disgruntlement in the stands.

“Sam has stabilised things at the club and wanted to make it better again next season — I believe he would have done.

“Unfortunately, I fear he will not get the chance. Perhaps he is better off out of it, if this is the treatment he gets for a job well done.”

OPINION

Allardyce has certainly achieved the aim of helping Everton climb up the league table and they are now a lot closer to pre-season expectations. The Toffees were hopeful ahead of the campaign after a busy summer of spending and their squad has fallen just short. Some people could argue that Allardyce deserves a crack next season after his positive impact since arriving, but the general consensus is that he isn’t the right fit for the club. It makes sense to bring in a new man for the next campaign if supporters are not on side and they are keen on playing a more attacking brand of football.
