Celtic may miss out on Paris Saint-Germain striker Odsonne Edouard despite Brendan Rodgers’ admission that they would like to sign the on-loan youngster permanently, according to the Daily Mail

The newspaper report that the French giants are currently in the process of agreeing a deal which would make Portuguese outfit Vitoria Guimaraes a satellite club for their young players.

The Mail claim that the 20-year-old striker is at the top of the Portuguese club’s list of players they would like to take on loan from Paris, with more talks planned between the two parties for next week.

It is said that the Hoops agreed a fee to take Edouard permanently at the end of the season, but Rodgers has revealed that PSG have the right to veto that move, a right which they may exercise in a new twist for Celtic’s pursuit.

“There’s no question for me. He’s a player you always want. A boy at that age, with those qualities, he’s only going to get better.
But we have to respect his club – he’s a signed player for PSG. They might have other plans, so it’s something that we’ll speak to them about.

“There’s an option there, but there’s other bits around it which will need clarifying. But it’s a deal that is doable,” said Rodgers.

Good move for Celtic?

Absolutely.

Edouard has been brilliant for Celtic this season when he has played, with the 6ft 2in marksman netting eight goals for his loan club so far.

His potential is vast, with the striker still just 20 years old, and he has begun to show that at Parkhead this year.

Rodgers is obviously a big fan, with the youngster impressing in training, and a move to take him permanently would seem to be a no-brainer.

Likely to happen?

Well, it had looked like Celtic may get their wish with that price agreement in place for a while, but that PSG veto may now come back to bite them.

If the French giants do agree this deal with Vitoria Guimaraes to become a satellite club – much like the deal in place between Chelsea and Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem – then that would seem Edouard’s likely next destination.
