Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a target for Real Madrid should they part ways with Zinedine Zidane at the end of the season, according to The Sun.

The newspaper report that Zidane may be sacked this summer after two-and-a-half years in charge, unless he manages to guide his team to a third-successive Champions League trophy.

The Sun claim that Klopp’s brilliant work at Anfield since his arrival has turned heads at the Bernabeu, with several high-powered admirers at Real.

It is said that Klopp is now the man that Real would want to replace Zidane if a summer overhaul takes place, with sources in Germany confirming that the Spanish giants are now the club showing most interest in the 50-year-old after he was also linked with the Bayern Munich job.

OPINION

As many clubs find, with success comes the sharks, and Real will surely be lurking around Anfield this summer. Initial rumours focused around man-of-the-moment Mohamed Salah, who is reportedly a target for Los Blancos, but this report is equally, if not more worrying. Klopp is the mastermind behind Liverpool’s resurgence in recent seasons, and to lose him would be a devastating blow. Losing Salah would no doubt be a massive loss too, but losing a player and losing a manager are very different things. The Reds may have to hope that Klopp feels happy enough to stay on Merseyside if Real do come calling this summer, which will obviously depend on their results between now and the end of the season. One thing is for sure, a Liverpool v Real Madrid clash in the Champions League semi-finals or final would be mightily interesting.
