Leeds United centre-back Pontus Jansson has delivered a wholehearted verdict on his future at the club, saying he will ‘for sure’ be at Elland Road next season.

The 27-year-old Sweden international has been a talisman for the Whites since joining on an initial loan from Torino in 2016, eventually making that move permanent last summer.

He has made 74 appearances for the club in his time at Elland Road, becoming a mainstay and leader at the back for the club as they continue to chase a return to the Premier League.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of their Championship clash with Sunderland on Saturday, Jansson has delivered a massive response to questions about his future.

When asked if he would be at Leeds next season, he replied, as quoted by Leeds Live (Thursday, 13:13): “For sure. This club changed my life, my football career. I said wanted to talk to people around the club. This club should be in the Premier League.”

OPINION

Hearing Jansson issue such an emphatic response out in public to questions about his career will come as a massive relief to Leeds fans. The Swede is a fan favourite at Elland Road and has been since early on in his career at the club, and he will be a massive part of their first full season under Paul Heckingbottom next year. There were rumours that Jansson would look to leave the club this season after two years of failing to get into the top-flight, but those now seem to have been put to bed. This is a big boost for the club heading into the final few games of this season, and should help them with recruitment this summer too.
