Centre-forward Caleb Ekuban appeared to be ready for the season to end on Tuesday after Fulham defeated Leeds United 2-0 at Craven Cottage.

The 24-year-old’s confidence appeared to be shot when the full-time whistled had blown and was visibly shaking his head as the teams walked off the pitch.

Ekuban had a game to forget against the Cottagers as his failure to score in the 62nd minute of game, ensured that Paul Heckingbottom’s side suffered another defeat this season.

The centre-forward was played through on goal and all he had to do was slot the ball past Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, but his effort was just about saved by the keeper.

Ekuban’s shot wouldn’t have been saved if it was better.

However even the 24-year-old couldn’t had predicted that things were about to get worse.

After saving Ekuban’s effort, Bettinelli sent Fulham on the counter-attack and Aleksandar Mitrovic made the attack a success by calming firing home the ball to make it 2-0 to his side.

Once the Cottagers were 2-0 up, Leeds had no hope of getting themselves back into the game against the in-form Championship team.

Ekuban ended up being substituted in the 72nd minute of the game, and the forward’s confidence looked beyond repair once his number was held up by the fourth official.

The 24-year-old joined Leeds in the summer from Chievo Verona, but has struggled to make an impact at Elland Road.

The forward has only scored two goals, with one of them being in the EFL Cup, in 16 appearances this season.

Despite hardly featuring, Ekuban’s season looked over on Tuesday as his confidence hit an all-time low.
