Rose still miles off the pace

Tottenham defender Danny Rose once again looked miles off the pace at the weekend in the win over Bournemouth and looks a shadow of his former self.

The 27-year-old got a rare start in the Premier League as first-choice left-back Ben Davies was rested by the manager Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the England international failed to seize his huge opportunity and looks nowhere near the same player that has been dubbed world-class in recent years.

Rose returned from his knee injury in the back end of 2017 and so far has looked average during his 13 senior appearances this season.

The full-back definitely appears to have lost a yard of pace as he keeps getting caught out defensively and there is also a lack of attacking intent.

Davies is certainly the preferred option right now based on merit and his rival needs to raise his game.

Rose endured a disappointing game in the 4-1 win over Bournemouth as he was caught out in the build up to the goal they conceded.

He was at one point the standout option at left-back for club and country, but in the national side he will now have to battle the likes of Ryan Bertand and Ashley Young.

Pochettino now needs to galvanise Rose to ensure he plays a role in the club’s pursuit of a top four spot and the FA Cup, while also getting him fully prepared for the World Cup in the summer.
