Arsenal have opened talks over a summer move for Corinthians central midfielder Maycon, according to UOL.

The Brazilian outlet report that the Gunners have been tracking the 20-year-old for a while now, and talks have been held between the club and his representatives.

UOL claim that Maycon nearly joined Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk in January, but that move was called off at the last minute.

It is said that Serie A giants Napoli are also showing interest in the left-footed midfield maestro.

Good move for Arsenal?

Yes.

Maycon looks a real young talent, and is likely to move on to one of Europe’s big leagues in the summer after his failed move away in January.

Arsenal would do well to snap the 20-year-old up before the competition, which looks to be heating up ahead of the transfer window.

One issue would be experience, as the youngster has only ever played in Brazil, so there runs a risk that he will take some time to adjust to the level of competition in the Premier League.

Likely to happen?

It is hard to say so far out from the window, but Arsenal are certainly putting themselves in a good position.

Having held talks with the players representatives, the Gunners are setting out their stall early, and that is never a bad thing when it comes to transfers.
