Leeds United centre-back Pontus Jansson has been named as Sweden captain for their friendly clash with Romania on Tuesday, and fans on Twitter have been mixed in their reaction to the news.

The 27-year-old will wear the captain’s armband for Tuesday’s clash as he adds to his 13 caps for Sweden, with this being the first time he has led the national team.

Jansson last played for Sweden in June 2017, having spent much of the nation’s qualifying campaign on the bench or missing through injury.

The enforcer has been a key member of the Leeds squad since he arrived on loan from Torino in 2016, with the Whites making that deal permanent last summer for £3million.

Jansson has not quite reached the heights of last season so far this campaign, but remains a favourite among Leeds fans for his strong displays at the back.

The 27-year-old has made 72 appearances for the Whites in his two seasons at Elland Road, scoring six goals in that time as a regular in the starting lineup.

Fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that Jansson had been handed the massive honour, with many claiming that he should be made Leeds skipper, while others questioned the decision.
