Leeds United defender Aapo Halme has confirmed that he has received a major injury boost.

The 19-year-old has revealed he is now back in training after two months with a foot injury, as cited by Finnish publication Iltalehti.

He sustained his injury after he moved to the Yorkshire giants in the January transfer window from HJK Helsinki and is waiting to make his debut.

Halme is a 6ft 4in centre-back that immediately liked up with the Under-23s side, but was playing at senior level for HJK.

The Finnish teenager has revealed that he has been working hard in the gym on building his strength as he looks to prepare for the physicality of English football.

OPINION

It is very unlikely that Halme would have made an immediate impact on the first team following his January arrival, but his injury setback ruled him out of contention. However, Leeds’ defence has been a major problem for them this campaign and manager Paul Heckingbottom has shown he is willing to promote youngsters. Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper have not looked the same formidable centre-back partnership, while back-up option Matthew Pennington has struggled at times. Halme is very much viewed as someone for the future, but it will be interesting to see if he can make an impact at Under-23 level.
