Celtic slipped to their second league defeat of the season as they lost 1-0 to Kilmarnock on Saturday and Scott Brown wrongly took a dig at his opponents.

The 32-year-old midfielder seem to mock Kilmarnock’s team for celebrating with his post-match comments, as he suggested it looked like they just won the World Cup.

“Kilmarnock beat us and you saw their players celebrating in front of our fans like they’d won the World Cup,” said Brown, as quoted by the Daily Record.

Brown also took a sly dig at the way Killie played against the Hoops, as he moaned about the opponents playing a defensive style.

“It is always hard when opponents sit deep with a lot of men behind the ball and try to counter attack but we didn’t deal with that as well as we probably should have done.”

Kilmarnock went into Saturday’s clash 34 points behind the Bhoys who sit atop of the Scottish Premier League, and their victory was very unexpected.

So why shouldn’t they celebrate in style?

Only one other team this season has managed to beat Celtic, that being Hearts, and it’s an accomplishment for a side to get all three points from a meeting against the Hoops.

Brown shouldn’t be knocking a side for celebrating a victory against his club, he should be flattered.

It’s a sign of respect if anything, and for him to criticise a club for celebrating a victory against the Hoops, just makes it sound like sour grapes.

Especially when he points out that they had a lot of men behind the ball.

The no nonsense midfielder has an aggressive style and arguably pushes the boundaries of what is acceptable when he makes challenges.

This is shown by the recent controversy surrounding the 32-year-old’s tackle on Hearts’ 16-year-old Harry Cochrane, who as a result of the challenge is currently sidelined with a broken collarbone.

Hearts boss Craig Levein even slammed the midfielder for the tackle, sharing that players need more protection from him.

“I think everybody should get a little bit more protection from Scott Brown,” said Levein, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“Listen, I’ve known Scott for a long time and he’s aggressive in the way he plays, but…”

This aggressive attitude that he is known for is a result of him being willing to do whatever it takes to win, so why does he expect his opponents not to have the same approach?

Kilmarnock piled men behind the ball as it gave them their best chance of getting a result against Celtic.

Therefore Brown shouldn’t be calling his opponent’s celebrations into question when his side actually sustain a rare loss in the league, but he should be happy that he plays for a team that is so well respected.
