Former Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is very keen on a return to Elland Road as manager, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report that Grayson is an early betting favourite to replace current boss Thomas Christiansen, who is under pressure after a 4-1 defeat to Cardiff left the Whites seven points adrift of the play-offs.

The Mail claim that Grayson considers it his dream to make a return to the club as manager, after taking the reins at Elland Road between 2008 and 2012.

It is said that the 48-year-old is still a supporter of the club after he came through the academy as a boy.

Grayson led Leeds to a seventh-placed finish in 2010-11, and no one has managed to better that season since he was dismissed in 2012.

His last job was in charge of Sunderland, but he was dismissed from the post at the end of October with the club second from bottom in the Championship.

OPINION

Grayson’s return would be an emotional one, and one that many fans may want, but is it the right move for Leeds? The only success that Grayson has had since leaving Elland Road was with Preston North End, who he led back into the Championship. Before that he was sacked as Huddersfield manager after a run of 12 games without a win, and after that he managed just five months at Sunderland before being sacked. Grayson is a good manager, there is no doubt. But is he a great manager? Is he the man to take Leeds back to the Premier League? That is doubtful.
