John Terry raved about Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama by claiming “what a finish” on his Instagram story following his goal in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

The 26-year-old scored a thunderbolt at Anfield on Sunday when he was introduced to the game as a substitute by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

He is not renowned for his shooting, but his first goal of the season arrived in some style with his long-range effort in front of the Kop.

Wanyama’s goal cancelled out Mohamed Salah’s early opener, but there was still time for another Salah strike and a late Harry Kane penalty in a dramatic finale.

Spurs are now a point adrift of the top four in the league and remain in the hunt for the Champions League spots.

The Wanyama strike was of such quality that even Chelsea legend and current Aston Villa defender John Terry gave it huge credit on his official Instagram account.

OPINION

Wanyama’s goal against Liverpool was of the highest order and remarkably it may not have been the best of the match, with Salah netting an unbelievable individual goal. The hunt for the top four does remain wide open following the stalemate at Anfield and it could go down to the wire. Terry’s former club Chelsea are in action on Monday night and will move four points clear of Spurs if they win against Watford. Spurs are currently going through an incredibly tough set of fixtures and face their great north London rivals Arsenal in the next league games. Wanyama will hope to force his way back into the starting XI on a regular basis and the weekend would have done those chances any harm.
