Leeds United could do with a defensive addition to their squad before the close of the January transfer window and should consider a move for Tottenham youngster Kyle Walker-Peters.

The Whites are expected to be without Luke Ayling for the rest of the season due to injury and that will leave Gaetano Berardi as their only senior right-back.

Thomas Christiansen’s side have opted not to recall Lewie Coyle from his loan at Fleetwood Town so far and will be playing a risky game if they don’t bring in cover for Berardi.

The Yorkshire giants should turn their attention to Spurs full-back Walker-Peters as he would be an excellent addition to the squad for the second half of the campaign.

The Sun reports that Southampton have launched a loan bid for the 20-year-old and that Spurs would consider shipping him out to gain first-team experience.

Leeds should plot an ambitious move to nudge Premier League club Southampton out the way and try to take him on loan in the Championship to help a promotion push.

There is a good argument to suggest Walker-Peters would play more regularly with the Whites competing alongside Berardi, while Southampton have Portugal international Cedric Soares currently filling the right-back position.

It may be an ambitious swoop to try land Spurs’ highly-rated defender, but it’s imperative they bring in a new full-back before Wednesday’s deadline cut-off.

Walker-Peters has made six senior appearances for Spurs this campaign and is being tipped to become a future regular.

The England Under-21 international is a right-back by trade and could certainly overtake Berardi in the pecking order.

He is an attack-minded player that can bomb forward, but is also dependable at the back and is very composed for a 20-year-old.
