Leeds United are plotting a late move in the January transfer window for Scunthorpe United’s central midfielder Funso Ojo, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claims in its transfer blog (12:17pm, Monday 29) that the Whites are lining up a raid for the 26-year-old.

It is understood that they are joining by Championship rivals Nottingham Forest and QPR in the hunt for the League One sensation.

Ojo is currently starring for fourth-placed Scunthorpe this season as they fight for promotion in League One and has adapted quickly to English football since his summer arrival.

The midfield destroyer is renowned for his defensive work in front of the back four and is also intelligent in possession.

Good move for Leeds?

Ojo has seriously impressed this campaign for Scunthorpe and looks like a player that could easily cut it in the Championship.

The Belgian has racked up 98 top-flight appearances in his career in Holland and is a technically gifted player.

He would some extra steel to Thomas Christiansen’s midfield and also has five assists in 30 games for Scunthorpe this campaign.

However, Leeds do already have several midfield options in their squad and strengthening the forward areas should be more important.

Adam Forshaw, Kalvin Phillips, Ronaldo Vieira and Eunan O’Kane are the senior players already battling for the central midfield spots.

Likely to happen?

It seems unlikely that Leeds would be able to pull this deal off so late into the January window as Wednesday’s deadline cut-off approaches.

Ojo has been an integral part of Scunthorpe’s season so far as they eye a Championship return and he only joined them in the summer.
