Leeds United are in pursuit of Southampton left-back Sam McQueen, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims [print edition, Friday 5 January, page 60] that the 22-year-old defender could leave St Mary’s on loan during the January transfer window.

It is understood that the Championship trio of Leeds, Reading or Brentford could be his destination for the second half of the season.

McQueen has featured six time in Southampton’s first team so far this campaign, but it appears they may sanction his exit on a temporary basis.

Good move for Leeds?

Thomas Christiansen needs to bring a left-back in during January over anything else and that is exactly why McQueen would be a dream signing.

The English full-back would be a perfect fit as the left-sided defender at Elland Road and could be a huge success in the Championship.

He has not looked out of place in the Premier League when he has played and the left-footed defender would thrive off regular game time.

McQueen is a highly-rated defender with the Saints, but just can’t seem to dislodge teammate Ryan Bertand from the XI.

However, he would walk into Leeds’ team and give their side a much-needed boost.

Likely to happen?

Leeds are certainly in the search for a new left-back after Gaetano Berardi’s admission about not being good enough for the position.

It seems like the McQueen deal could come to life, but the major problem could be competition from Championship rivals Reading and Brentford.
