Everton are interested in signing Porto’s Miguel Layun but face tough competition from several European clubs according to A Bola.

The newspaper claim that the Toffees along with Fenerbahce, Celta de Vigo and Deportivo Alavés have all showcased interest in the left-back.

A Bola report that Layun has struggled to feature for the team this season, despite also being able to play as a right-back.

Layun has been kept out of the team by Ricardo Pereira and Maxi Pereira who manager Sergio Conceicao prefers, and has only made five league appearances this season.

The left-back is known for his sublime passing ability which includes his knack for being able to whip in dangerous crosses.

Layun has also gained a reputation for being dangerous from direct free-kicks.

The defender’s qualities has seen him regularly feature for his country, Mexico, having 60 caps to his name.

Good move for Everton?

Layun would be excellent signing considering the Toffees currently have only one natural left-back in the team, Leighton Baines, and he’s currently out injured.

The left-back has many useful qualities that will have Toffees fans purring if he joins, and he has some experience of the Premier League having played three games in the league with Watford.

Likely to happen?

Everton need a left-back even if Baines is set to return from injury soon, because the Toffees have struggled without proper cover in that position.

Layun is out-of-favour so it’s easy to believe that Porto will cash in on the defender if Everton make them an offer.
