No Celtic interest in Tosic

Celtic have not submitted a bid for Besiktas enforcer Dusko Tosic and are not interested in signing the Serbia international, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim in their live transfer blog (17/01, 15:30) that reports suggesting the Hoops had bid for the 32-year-old were wide of the mark.

Turkish outlet Askam earlier reported that Celtic had submitted a £2.65million bid for the versatile enforcer, who has been a regular for Besiktas this season.

The Sun have now rubbished that report and state that Celtic hold no interest in the experienced defender, who has made 23 appearances in all competitions this season.

Good move for Celtic?

The Hoops have already signed an experienced international enforcer this month in Marvin Commper, and there would be little point in adding another.

Erik Sviatchenko has left, but that was always anticipated after Commper’s arrival.

Unless the club were preparing for another defender to depart, then this would have been a strange move for Brendan Rodgers to make.

Tosic is an experienced player, that is certain, but how much he would add to the current squad is up for debate.

Likely to happen?

Well, now that Celtic’s interest is reported to be a non-starter, no.

Even if their interest was genuine, Besiktas are reported to be looking for a bid of £3.5million for the 32-year-old.

Celtic would be much better off spending that money elsewhere, and it looks as if they will do just that.
