Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen has confirmed that defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has been ruled out of the Championship match against Ipswich due to injury.

The 20-year-old left-back played in the club’s last game as they lost 2-1 to League Two side Newport County in the third round of the FA Cup.

However, it has been revealed that the English full-back has suffered an injury and will be unavailable for Saturday’s clash against Ipswich at Portman Road in a fresh blow.

“He is not in the list (squad for Ipswich) because two days ago he got a kick – to his ankle – so he is out,” Christiansen said in his press conference, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Borthwick-Jackson is currently on a season-long loan at Elland Road from Manchester United, but his future is currently in doubt.

The Daily Mail report that both Fulham and Reading are keen on taking the left-back on loan for the second half of the season.

It is understood he is set to leave Leeds after making just six senior appearances for them this campaign.

OPINION

Borthwick-Jackson has not featured in the league since the opening day of the season and his absence will not really be missed against Ipswich. Leeds have managed to sign left-back Laurens De Bock from Belgian side Club Brugge and he is now set to become a permanent feature in the starting XI. Leeds are now without the injured Luke Ayling for the rest of the season and that is going to mean a reshuffle of what has been a fairly settled backline. The Whites need to try to maintain a strong defensive discipline as that will help them a long way in their pursuit of Championship promotion this season.
