Dutch Eredivisie club FC Utrecht will explore the possibility of signing Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich on a permanent deal at a later stage, according to De Telegraf.

The Dutch newspaper claim that there is no stipulation of an option to buy inserted into the initial loan of Klich that was announced on Monday.

But De Telegraf report that there are “possibilities” to keep the central midfielder for longer as he “does fit into the long term planning” of the club hierarchy.

Klich, 27, has agreed to join FC Utrecht for the remainder of the season just six months after completing a permanent transfer from FC Twente.

FC Utrecht are placed sixth in the Dutch Eredivisie but lag a distant 20 points behind league leaders PSV Eindhoven.

OPINION

Klich has failed to live up to expectations at Leeds but he has a fine reputation in Holland after an impressive campaign at Utrecht’s top-tier rivals Twente last season, where he was a mainstay of the side that finished in the top half of the Dutch Eredivisie last season. Thomas Christiansen has made up his mind that Klich is not suited to the Championship and it may be the best move for all parties if the midfielder rips it up in the second half of the season an Utrecht make Leeds an offer in which they would at least recoup the reported £1.5million fee they spent on Klich last summer.
