Leeds United are in the running to sign Norwich striker Steven Naismith in January, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

BetVictor priced the Yorkshire giants at 12/1 on Tuesday afternoon to sign Naismith, 31, before the end of this month after the Scotland international admitted he could move clubs.

Scottish duo Kilmarnock (evens) and Rangers (4/1) lead the betting race to land the Scotland international, while Aberdeen and Sunderland (both 8/1) are well placed.

Due to injury, Naismith has made just three appearances for the Canaries across all competitions this season and has not played since August but once he is back to fitness he may not be able to force his way into Daniel Farke’s first-team plans.

Naismith has 18 months remaining on the Norwich contract that he signed when he joined from Everton two years ago for a fee of £9million.

At Goodison, he had a fine goal return of 26 goals from 123 appearances, once scoring a memorable hat-trick against Chelsea.

OPINION

Naismith is 31 and has barely figured for Norwich this season due to an injury that sidelined him for two months but he is far from over the hill. The forward is mobile, committed and has an eye for goal, as he proved during spells at Rangers, Everton and Kilmarnock. He would be a brilliant January signing for Leeds, who do not have much money to spend, but need a front man who knows how to find the back of the net. Naismith could probably be prised from Norwich for a fee of around £1.5million in January, a fee that Leeds could afford. He would be an upgrade on their current forward options, with neither Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Kemar Roofe or Caleb Ekuban convincing in the spearhead role this season despite some good moments.
