QPR have terminated the contract of defender Steven Caulker with immediate effect on Thursday – and Celtic fans on Twitter want the club to try snap up the free agent.

The Championship side confirmed on their official website that the 25-year-old has left with immediate effect by mutual consent.

He was entering his final six months of his deal at Loftus Road, but is now a free agent after cutting his contract short with the London-based club.

Caulker moved to QPR for £8million back in 2014, but slipped down the pecking order this season and made just four appearances this season.

The one-time capped England international has seen a mighty fall in the past couple of years but he is a player that has 123 Premier League appearances under his belt.

Celtic fans on social media have reacted quickly to Caulker having his contract terminated and believe manager Brendan Rodgers should try sign the available centre-back.

The powerhouse previously worked with Rodgers during a loan spell at Swansea back in the 2011-12 season in the Premier League.

Celtic have already been in the market for a centre-back ahead of the January transfer window and have already completed a deal for Marvin Compper.

The 32-year-old is now set to complete his switch to Parkhead on 1 January and compete alongside the likes of Jozo Simunovic, Kristoffer Ajer and Dedryck Boyata for a starting position.

However, Bhoys supporters have suggested signing another centre-back and the idea of moving for Caulker makes sense.

The Scottish giants reportedly held talks with him in the summer about a transfer and he is now available after leaving QPR.
