Celtic have held talks over signing QPR defender and England international Steven Caulker this summer and he is now set to be offered a chance by the Hoops, according to the Mirror.

The news outlet details that the 25-year-old’s efforts to rebuild his reputation, which once saw him as one of the brightest prospects in English football have drawn the attention of manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Northern Irishman has previously worked with the powerful centre-back when in charge of Premier League outfit Swansea in 2011-12.

It was only a season that saw Caulker spend at the Welsh club, but he played 26 times in total under Rodgers which saw him add to his once blossoming reputation.

However, since then he has had a troubled career despite being capped once by England, which has seen him end up in the Championship with QPR.

Last season alone Caulker played just 14 times in all competitions for the London-based club and is now going into the final year of his contract.

He last played in England’s top-flight back in 2016 during a loan spell at Liverpool and a move to Celtic, who will also be hoping to be playing in the Champions League next season could be the perfect opportunity to reignite his career.
