Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction after their Under-23s’ clash against Hull City on Friday night was postponed at short notice.
United called off the Professional Development League fixture just hours ahead of a scheduled 7pm kick-off at Elland Road having been informed that Hull lacked sufficient players to fulfil it.
Hull informed the Premier League that a combination of injuries, an FA Youth Cup tie at Bournemouth this evening and “first-team demands” of new manager Nigel Adkins, who has replaced the sacked Leonid Slutsky, left them without an Under-23s side.
United were left frustrated by late call-off and in statement posted on their official website said: “The match, originally scheduled to take place at Elland Road at 7pm, has been cancelled due to Hull City being unable to field a team.
“Leeds United are disappointed with the decision to postpone the fixture at such short notice, which is out of the club’s control.”
United hired a new Under-23s coach this summer in Carlos Corberan but results have failed to improve on last season despite an influx of foreign signings at youth-team level.
Leed are bottom of their professional development league after three wins from 14 games, and have not win in their last five matches.
United supporters are as unimpressed as their club at the late call-off, and hit out at Championship rivals Hull for being a “tinpot” outfit.
