Leeds United should consider joining the reported race for Oldham left-back Rob Hunt to help solve a current problem in their squad.

HITC Sport claim that “a host” of teams in the Championship are lining up a swoop for the League One defender after catching the eye so far this season.

It is understood that scouts from the Championship have held regular checks on his performances and that he has a £300,000 release clause in his contract.

The 22-year-old only moved to Oldham permanently in the summer from Brighton and is already in-demand with teams from a higher division.

Leeds must make sure they are one of the teams tracking Hunt as the youngster certainly has the potential to succeed at a better level.
The versatile full-back can play on either flank and has thrived as a left-back this campaign for 17th-placed Oldham.
He is a product of the Brighton academy and made five senior appearances for them before leaving in search of regular first-team football.

Leeds could do with a new left-back in the January transfer window and Thomas Christiansen should look to add Oldham’s sensation.

The Whites currently have Gaetano Berardi and Vurnon Anita as senior options at left-back, but the duo are both much better in different positions.

Meanwhile, specialist left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has not managed to impress at Elland Road since he joined on loan from Manchester United, leaving a big space open in the squad.

Hunt is surely worth the risk at just £300,000 and that could turn out to be a bargain buy if he makes the step up to the Championship.
