Andrea Radrizzani has urged Leeds United fans to inspire the players with their “love and passion” on Sunday against Middlesbrough – but supporters took to Twitter to tell the owner to bin the plastic flags at Elland Road.

Radrizzani posted a message on Twitter on Wednesday night pleading with fans to get behind the struggling team for the Championship showdown against Middlesbrough.

“Finally we are back in the biz on Sunday. Let’s make Elland Road loud and on fire for the lads. We need your love and passion,” Radrizzani wrote on his personal Twitter account, accompanied by a link to a story on the official website.

It stated that 32,000 tickets have already been sold for Leeds’ first fixture in two weeks in a match made even more significant by Leeds’ need to end their horror run and the return of former manager Garry Monk.

Plastic flags and cards to form a mosaic will be left on the seats of supporters to add to the atmosphere.

But a section of Leeds fans were none too impressed at what they felt were the club’s artificial attempts at drumming up atmosphere and made that plain to owner Radrizzani.
