Rio Ferdinand believes that Tottenham are still missing that star player in their side and need a player similar to Chelsea’s Eden Hazard to take them to the next level.

Spurs proved on Tuesday night that their team is progressing as they beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 away and qualified in first place from their Champions League group.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have topped the group with a game to spare despite having heavyweights Real Madrid and Dortmund alongside them.

The Premier League side managed to pick up another three points in Europe on Tuesday night as goals from Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son secured a victory over Dortmund.

However, Ferdinand still believes that the north London club may need to invest more in their team and suggested they need someone in the same ilk of Hazard.

“They’ve still got further to go and I think they need to invest,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“I keep saying they need to invest in somebody that is going to be that stardust in the team and they don’t have that yet.

“Harry Kane is a great goalscorer, but I’m talking about that magician, that Eden Hazard, someone who can draw two or three players out of position.”

OPINION

Spurs would certainly be a better team if they had Hazard in their side, but that could apply for pretty much any team in the world. The 26-year-old does have that individual bit of quality to dribble past opponents with ease and has a very low centre of gravity. Ferdinand believes that Spurs are missing that type of player, but the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son do have that in the locker at times. One name that continues to crop up is Real Madrid star Gareth Bale and he could be just the player to take Pochettino’s side to the next level if he returned to Spurs.
