Josh Onomah helped Aston Villa to a home victory over Sunderland on Tuesday night – and the club’s supporters praised him for his performance on Twitter.

The attacking midfielder scored his third goal of the season as the hosts edged out bottom of the league Sunderland 2-1 in a Championship encounter.

Albert Adomah opened the scoring for Steve Bruce’s side in the 10th minute and Onomah doubled the lead in the second-half as his deflected shot rifled into the net.

The Midlands giants have now moved up to fourth in the league table and are now firmly in the promotion mix.

Onomah has continued to impress in Bruce’s side and has been a success since he joined in the summer on a season-long loan from Tottenham.

Villa fans on social media raved about the England Under-21 international after his display against Sunderland, where he once again proved a real threat in the final third.

Onomah dropped down to the Championship over the summer to pursue regular first-team football as he is yet to make his breakthrough under Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs.

The creative playmaker has become a regular feature in the Villa side this campaign and has mainly operated in the number 10 role, but can also be deployed as a deeper central midfielder.

He is renowned for having good technical ability and being strong in possession, while he is also showing an eye for goal this campaign.

Spurs are hoping that Onomah is the latest player to breakthrough their academy into the first team and that he continues his rapid development at Villa.
