Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira has revealed that manager Thomas Christiansen warned his players to cut out the mistakes in the aftermath of the defeat to Derby.

The Whites suffered a 2-1 loss at Elland Road on Tuesday night as Sam Winnall netted a second-half brace for the visitors.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga had scored his fifth goal for the club in the first-half, but the loss meant the Yorkshire giants have now lost five of their last six league games.

Leeds will feel that both of Derby’s goals were avoidable as their equaliser came from a crossing position where the defence was left too stretched, while the winner was via the penalty spot.

Vieira has explained that in the dressing room after the match that the manager told the players they need to stop making errors, but that he felt they did enough to win the game.

“He (Christiansen) said I didn’t think we deserved to lose really,” Vieira told LUTV.

“Thought we did enough to win the game and we just need to cut off the mistakes and go over what we did wrong and what we did right.

OPINION

Leeds should have done enough to kill off the game when they were in front against Derby, but their defensive weakness once again was highlighted in the league. They were sensational at the beginning of the campaign at nullifying the threat of opponents, but in recent weeks have become far too stretched and don’t appear to be a unit. They have the characters in their team to help solve this problem and they will need a turnaround quickly if they are to stay in and around the play-off positions. Leeds now travel to Brentford in their next Championship match and it’s imperative they pick up maximum points before the international break.
