The next most likely Leeds signing is Groningen forward Mimoun Mahi, according to Football Whispers.

The Morocco international, 23, has rocketed up the list of expected Leeds arrivals following recent reports that he is a firm January target of the Championship promotion hopefuls.

Football Whispers, which gathers all transfer rumours across the globe and calculates the likelihood of them happening, rates it 2.9 out of 5 that Mahi, 23, will join Leeds, with five the highest possible ranking and meaning it is a certainty.

The one-time international is narrowly ahead in the ratings of Liverpool forward Danny Ings and MLS striker Cyle Larin, who are both rated at 2.8 to transfer to Elland Road.

Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen is reportedly looking to add to his attacking options at Elland Road in January and funds will be made available to him following the £18million sale of Chris Wood to Burnley.

Good move for Leeds?

Definitely. Mahi is a full Morocco international and has an impressive record of 29 goals and nine assists from 93 Groningen matches. The wide forward, who plays predominantly on the left flank but can also be the main spearhead or secondary striker, has begun the season on fire, with nine Eredivisie matches yielding five goals. He is regarded as one of the best talents currently operating in Holland and he has caught the eye of a number of clubs in England. Leeds have cash in the bank after the Wood sale and Mahi would represent good use of it.

Likely to happen?

Given that Leeds have money to spend after the summer sales of Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor for a combined £25million, and Mahi is out of contract in the summer of 2019, Groningen are vulnerable to a bid. Signing top forwards in January is a mighty difficult task, but Leeds are relatively flush and have an inclination to spend it, especially if they sense that promotion to the Premier League is a realistic option. Mahi would certainly be far cheaper in wages terms than Ings and more likely to stick around.
