Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to rage at Chris Wood’s attempt to set the record straight over his exit from the club.
The United faithful have torn into the striker after he revealed in an interview with the Independent on Thursday that his absence from the match against Sunderland in August was ‘out of his hands’.
Wood, 25, quit Elland Road for Burnley in the summer for £18million after they had a bid accepted by the Championship side just hours before they were due to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
The New Zealand international revealed on Twitter that he wasn’t in the “right place'”to take part in the fixture and as a result was left behind at the team hotel as Leeds secured a 2-0 win.
However the former West Brom target man has now told the Independent that Burnley’s bid was subject to him not playing against Sunderland, to remove the possibility that an injury could scupper his move.
Wood’s version of events has not gone down well with Leeds fans, who either said it had come too late in the day or pointed out that it was the player who had put out the message that he did not feel right to play against Sunderland and not the club.

Not one mention from wood about LUFC, never a cult hero & never had the fans hooked, despite 30 odd goals. Rarely see a ‘Wood 9’ shirt #lufc https://t.co/OtUyk6jyK4

#LUFC said nothing. It was Wood who put the message out. He’d have been better just keeping quite rather than making up a story.

Chris Wood…
19th August: “I don’t feel it is right that I play today”
5th October: “It was out of my hands whether I played or not”#lufc pic.twitter.com/hMyOP45l7Q— ???????????????????????? (@SimplySamuSaiz) October 5, 2017
You wanted to leave end of story good luck to you but you're a distant memory now

I don't get how he can be confused when we wrote what he wrote on Twitter what did he expect

Chris should just stop lying. He said over the summer he intended staying at Leeds. Turns out he was looking for a move all along.

Pathetic. He looks even worse after saying all that. Why doesn’t he just get his head down and play for that Prem team he ‘held out for’

Reinforces that, at the time, Chris Wood really needed to leave his phone in his pocket. His own inaccurate tweet caused the backlash #LUFC https://t.co/6rbqZarsUo
