Martin Keown believes that Tottenham capitulated against West Ham on Wednesday and put it down to another poor night at Wembley.

Spurs suffered a 3-2 loss to their London rivals in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and it ended their 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were firmly in the ascendency against the Hammers with a 2-0 lead at half-time.

However, Slaven Bilic’s team produced a brilliant second-half comeback to ease pressure on their under-fire manager.

Pundit Keown believes that Spurs would have never let a two-goal lead slip in that fashion at White Hart Lane and feels that temporary home Wembley had a factor.

He ripped into Pochettino’s side for not being physical enough and claims that West Ham forward Andy Carroll bullied them with his strength.

“It was another case of ‘Trembly Wembley’ for Tottenham,” Keown wrote in the Daily Mail.

“I could not see that capitulation happening at White Hart Lane. They were swept away by West Ham.

“Physicality seemed to be an issue for Spurs, particularly when it came to dealing with balls into the box. Andy Carroll caused mayhem for them.”

OPINION

Spurs should have put the West Ham game to bed having led 2-0 after 45 minutes and let their opponents back into the match by taking their foot off the gas. Keown has once again mentioned the impact of Wembley on the side and it is difficult to work out how much the national stadium is really impacting them. The North London club appeared to put any Wembley demons to bed recently after smashing Liverpool 4-1 and played some excellent football. It appears that the Wembley factor will always come into question when Spurs lose, but in reality they just switched off on Wednesday night against a team desperate for a win.
