Chris Sutton ripped into Celtic defender Cristian Gamboa during the defeat to Bayern Munich and claimed that he needed to be put out of his misery.

The 27-year-old right-back made just his second appearance of the season on Wednesday night and was part of a defence that struggled against a lethal Bayern attack.

Brendan Rodgers’ side suffered a 3-0 loss away to the German heavyweights and were unable to put up much resistance.

Thomas Muller, Joshua Kimmich and Mats Hummels were on the scoresheet for the hosts as they made their dominance count.

BT pundit and former Celtic striker Sutton teared into Gamboa during the match and feels he was out of his depth.

“2-0 Bayern Munich. Tough night so far for Celtic. Gamboa needs to be put out of his misery. Next goal crucial,” Sutton wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Gamboa completed 90 minutes in the loss to Bayern and he may well have wasted his opportunity in the starting XI.

The Costa Rice international played at the weekend in the win over Dundee and got a chance to impress on the European stage against Bayern.

However, Celtic’s full-backs struggled to deal with the pace of the Bayern attackers as they dominated the game.

Celtic will now be looking for an immediate response and turn their attention to a huge Scottish League Cup semi-final against Hibernian on Saturday.
