Hamburg sporting director Jens Todt has admitted that Leeds United loanee Pierre-Michel Lasogga could still have a future at the German club.

The 25-year-old striker joined Leeds on a one-year loan spell from the Bundesliga giants in the summer after falling out of favour with the management.

He has made an immediate impression for Thomas Christiansen’s side, scoring three goals and supplying three assists in his six matches.

Many Leeds fans are keen to see Lasogga’s temporary deal turned into a permanent one after his bright start but Todt surprisingly admitted that there could still be a place for him back in Germany.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that Leeds are paying just £15,000-a-week towards Lasogga’s £50,000-a-week Hamburg wages.

Speaking with German publication Hamburger Morgenpost, Todt said of the striker: “If Pierre plays a good season (at Leeds), he could also play a role (at Hamburg) with a lot of fresh self-confidence.”

Lasogga joined Hamburg from German rivals Hertha Berlin on an initial loan deal back in 2013, before seeing the move made permanent in the summer of 2014.

He has scored 30 goals in 107 appearances for the club, although was not included in any of their match day squads for the start of this season before moving to the Championship club.

OPINION

Lasogga is contracted to Hamburg until 2019 and is very well paid indeed, so the Bundesliga club are well within their rights to slot him back into their first team next season if he has a stellar campaign for Leeds. That said, Lasogga was well down the pecking order before he left and there were whispers from the club hierarchy that his attitude was not what it should be. It would represent a considerable U-turn for the forward to be welcomed back into the Hamburg fold next season, although the world of football changes at a dizzying pace.
