A fifth defeat from six matches in all competitions has punctured the balloon of optimism at Leeds United generated by their excellent start to the season.

It is not quite time to hit the panic button but the 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield United on Friday night has brought home the harsh reality that Thomas Christiansen’s side have an awful lot of improving to do to mount a genuine promotion challenge.

For all the excellence of Samuel Saiz, the one man who consistently delivers for Leeds, Chris Wilder’s side were good value for the win as only some fine goalkeeping from Andy Lonergan prevented a less flattering scoreline.

So, what must Leeds do to return to the red hot side who were scoring goals for fun, being Scrooge-like at the back and racking up points with such abandon some fans were contemplating promotion to be wrapped up early in the new year?
